1. How does ZERONA work?

Body fat accumulates in fat cells. For all people, the ZERONA system empties the contents of the fat cells in less than 20 minutes. ZERONA stimulates the fat cells in order to liquefy the fat (emulsification) within the cell. The liquefied fat then travels from inside to outside the cell through a temporary pore formed in the cell membrane. The liquefied fat remains outside the cell until its absorption by the lymphatic system. This results in a reduction in the volume of millions of fat cells, and therefore a thinning of the body. The fat cells do not become damaged in any way during this process.

2. What should I expect during my appointment?

You can expect to have 40 minutes to relax, read or do absolutely nothing. The ZERONA treatment is completely painless. There is no heat or any sensation whatsoever while being treated. You will be welcomed by a technician at each visit who will position the laser at the desired areas of the body. The technician will then exit the room for 20 minutes while the front of your body undergoes treatment and will return to then treat the backside of the body for another 20 minutes. Once the treatment is finished, you can resume your normal activities without any downtime, pain, swelling or discomfort. This is a symptom-free process except for losing unwanted inches.

3. What body mass index (BMI) is required to proceed with the ZERONA treatment?

Zerona is recommended for people with a body mass index below 35.

4. Who is the ideal candidate?

ZERONA is a « healthy » body slimming system that reduces the fat that is resistant to diet and exercise. The ideal candidate is thus a person who wants to reduce fat in certain areas that diet and exercise can’t make disappear.

5. Are the results permanent?

With regards to permanency, whether it is liposuction or other cosmetic devices that promise fat reduction, fat will always return if the individual does not adopt a healthy lifestyle. The reduction of fat in the targeted areas can therefore be permanent as long as the person lives a healthy lifestyle.

6. Are the ZERONA lasers dangerous?

ZERONA uses low level lasers. This type of laser has been used for more than 40 years in treatments for such conditions as chronic pain, wound healing, and many other orthopaedic conditions. There has never been any side-effects in forty years due to the use of this type of laser. Amongst other uses, ZERONA is used to facilitate liposuction.

Most importantly, unlike liposuction and other non-invasive devices that promise fat reduction, ZERONA is the only device available that does not harm fat cells. Fat cells play an important role in maintaining hormone and immune systems functions. Their destruction can therefore be harmful for the health.

7. Where should I expect to lose fat?

ZERONA can eliminate inches of fat from areas such as the abdomen, back, hips, thighs, waist, buttocks, chin, neck and arms. It has been proven that the ZERONA therapy program has a systemic cascade effect, which means that it also treats cells outside the specific target areas resulting in a consistent reduction of fat in other parts of the body. ZERONA simply reshapes a person’s silhouette while tightening and toning loose skin.

8. Is ZERONA really effective?

ZERONA is the first aesthetic laser that is supported by clinical studies. The FDA, also known as the United States Food and Drug Administration (the equivalent of Health Canada), has recognized the safety and effectiveness of ZERONA for body slimming. As a result, ZERONA has become the first and only non-invasive body contouring procedure that has ever been approved by the FDA.

9. Does ZERONA help reduce cellulite and improve the skin’s appearance?

Yes, there is a possibility to see an improvement in the skin’s appearance because one of ZERONA’s effects is to rejuvenate the cells. However, ZERONA’s primary goal is body slimming.

10. Which parts of the body can be treated with ZERONA?

The ZERONA treatment can be used on virtually all parts of the body where fat deposits are found. Several areas can be treated at the same session.

11. How many pounds should I expect to lose?

ZERONA is not a weight loss method but rather a body slimming system. The quantity of fat lost in a three inches reduction is equivalent to a 1 litre container of water. The weight of such a loss is approximately 2 pounds; which is not a significant amount since fat is not heavy.

12. Are there any restrictions?

If you are pregnant or think you may be pregnant, ZERONA should not be used. Additionally, if you have a pacemaker, this treatment may not be for you. There are no known detrimental risks but potential unknown risks may exist. ZERONA may not be as effective on patients with diabetes or thyroid disorders where the metabolic system is potentially impaired. Lastly, a person who suffers from cancer or who has been in remission for less than a year should not proceed with this treatment.

The treatment should only be started after menstruations are over as the ZERONA treatment is less efficient when the menstrual period is present.

People who have liver disorders, kidney or intestine problems will also see less significant results as the fat will have a more difficult time to exit the body.

13. Can I do the treatment if I have a thyroid problem?

Generally speaking, a person with thyroid problems has a slower metabolism which limits the fat elimination from the body. If the thyroid problem is controlled with medication and the client puts in extra effort, good results can be expected however, additional sessions may be required.

ZERONA is not dangerous for a person with the above condition.

14. Why do the results vary between clients?

Certain people have a better detoxification system and fat metabolism than others. A person having problems with their lymphatic system, metabolism, liver, kidneys or who is constipated will lose less than someone who has a perfect health; their detoxification system being affected.

The ZERONA system allows a person to lose between 3 to 9 inches quickly. As previously mentioned, the quantity of fat lost in a three inches reduction is equivalent to a 1 litre container of water. As a result, the detoxification system must be effective to eliminate such a quantity of fat.

15. How does the body eliminate the fat?

The fat released from the cells by ZERONA is eliminated by the body during its natural detoxification process, more specifically:

  • The lymphatic system brings the fat to the liver through the bloodstream;
  • The liver (which is the central organ in the detoxification process) transforms the fat and sends most of it to the intestines;
  • The intestines then eliminate the fat received by the liver.

16. What happens if I miss an appointment?

The fat released by the cells with ZERONA returns inside the cells after a period of 48 to 72 hours if it is not evacuated by the body. This is the reason why the treatment lasts for 2 to 3 weeks and has to be done every other day. By doing this, the fat remains outside the cells throughout the entire treatment and you give your body the time to eliminate it. It is therefore very important not to go more than 72 hours between appointments.

17. How does ZERONA differ from liposuction?

Liposuction is a surgical invasive procedure that eliminates the fat cells underneath the skin in a targeted zone. This is done using a hollow stainless steel tube (called a cannula) and a powerful vacuum. Liposuction can be done through the use of general or local anaesthesia or a sedative. On the other hand, ZERONA is a 100% non-invasive treatment that uses a low level laser applied externally to stimulate the fat cell and emulsify and release fat. There is no use of anaesthetics, gels, creams or needles.

18. How does ZERONA differ from other fat reduction devices?

ZERONA is the only completely safe and effective non-invasive treatment for body slimming on the market today. There is no possibility of injury. No technician will be pushing on you or using any device against your body. You simply lay beneath the ZERONA lights.

Some devices such as UltraShape and LipoSonix use high intensity ultrasounds (hence the name "Ultra" and "Sonix") focalized at a specific location. They are therefore unable to treat multiple body parts simultaneously or some body parts too close to vital organs. They use very powerful ultrasounds wherein a doctor must define the treated area to avoid damaging vital organs, which could potentially happen by sending ultrasounds directly to organs or indirectly by means of a bounce off the bones. These devices destroy the fat cells.

ZERONA is a treatment that does not damage the fat cells since these cells play an important role in maintaining hormonal and immune system functions. Unlike other body cells, fat cells have the unique ability to increase their dimension up to 100 times their normal size. The destruction of fat cells may thus create unhealthy obese fat cells bad for the health since bad toxins could be released by these cells (the cell membrane being too thin).

19. Is there a recovery period?

There is no recovery period. During the treatment you will not experience any discomfort. Anaesthesia will not be administered and you will be able to return to your normal activities after each treatment.

20. Are there any activity restrictions while undergoing the ZERONA treatment?

No. You can continue your normal activities during your treatment period. It is however strongly recommended that you commit to and follow the treatment protocol such as to stay hydrated (8-10 glasses of water a day), continue to eat healthy, do exercises that help your lymphatic system, and limit alcohol and caffeine consumption which reduces the liver’s capacity to eliminate fat from the body.

21. Is the ZERONA treatment covered by insurance companies?

Generally speaking no, as the ZERONA treatment is considered as an aesthetic treatment.

22. Are there any side effects?

No. This low level laser has been used for over forty years and no side effects have ever happened.

23. How long has the ZERONA laser been used?

The ZERONA laser has been studied since 2008 and has been used for body contouring since the beginning of 2009. The same laser has been used to safely assist with liposuction surgery since 2001 as it is proven to cause fat to be released from fat cells immediately prior to liposuction surgery, which allows for better results. From this important experience, the ZERONA technique was developed for effective, totally non-invasive body slimming.

24. How many inches should I expect to lose?

An average loss of 3,64 inches around the waist, hips and thighs was noted in clinical trials without making any lifestyle changes. However, the results can be maximized if the treatment protocol is followed such as to stay hydrated (8-10 glasses of water a day), continue to eat healthy, do exercises that help your lymphatic system, and limit alcohol and caffeine consumption which reduces the liver’s capacity to eliminate fat from the body.

25. Can I do the treatment more than once? How long do I have to wait between my last treatment before beginning the following one?

Yes, and you can expect to see better results with each additional treatment. You can begin a new series of treatments immediately after your last treatment.

26. How long after pregnancy can ZERONA be started?

It is highly recommended that you wait until after your last postpartum visit with your doctor before undergoing the ZERONA treatment (usually 6 weeks after giving birth). This treatment is not recommended if you are breast feeding.

27. How long does it take before results can be seen?

Some people begin seeing results after only a few visits as their clothes fit more loosely. However, most clients are seeing results after 4 to 6 sessions.

28. Is everyone a good candidate for the ZERONA treatment?

The majority of people are good candidates. Even people who are not overweight can lose several inches. Be sure to discuss your previous health issues as well as your expectations about your particular areas of concern with your technician before starting treatment.
